Rifle Shooting
The FFGSC operates 2 rifle ranges.    Both locations are open to members only.

One is located at the Shorty Barnes Road (new club house) location.  It features 2 concrete bench rests, a
35 yard pistol backstop, and a 112 yard and 250 yard backstop.  The layout of the range is wooded, which
keeps the effect of the wind to a minimum.

The other location is the "Old Club", located off of Dartmoor Road in Fairfield Glade.  It features a neatly
groomed full target pistol range, as well as a 100 yard, 200 yard, and 300 yard range with bench rests.

The Rifle Range at our old club location is not only longer more versatile in yardage, but is also separated
from the pistol range.

The rifle range is located about 200 yards to the left of the leaf-dump area, which is just beyond the
pavilion.  This range was updated in February of 2005 with the addition of a third shooting bench, the
overhaul and repositioning of the 2 existing benches, and the addition, of 3 new portable target stands.
Small ribbons have been set into the ground at 50 yard intervals out to a distance of 150 yards away from
the most forward bench to help you in setting up your shooting distance.  The benches are also spaced 50
yards apart.

The target stands are stored under the benches and are equipped to hold your paper target.  They can
easily set into the ground at the shooting distance you prefer.  Please replace them back under the
benches.  These target stands are primarily intended for more precision shooting such as “zeroing” in your
scoped rifle.  A much larger target screen (6 ft high by 10 ft. wide) is located 85 yards from the forward
bench and is intended for larger paper targets normally associated wi5th sighting in a non scoped gun, such
as a slug gun, muzzle loader, etc. or just plinking with a .22 caliber.  The forward bench allows for shooting
at 50 yards and 100 yards, the middle bench at 100 and 150 yards, and the rear bench at 200 and 250
yards.

The range yardages have all been set with a laser range finder and are accurate to +/- 1 yard.  Paper
targets the size you need are all that’s required.  Each bench has been leveled and firmly stabilized and are
equipped with shoring lumber and sand bags to bench rest your rifle.  You are free to bring in any other
sighting equipment you want.
We now have a .22 Rifle
League Operating
We shoot each Tuesday Morning at 10:30 on the rifle/Pistol range
located on Shorty Barnes Road.

We shoot using any combination of Rifle and sights. Eash shooter
is positioned sitting at a table, with the rifle held off hand, without
any bipod or rest. We are positioned at 50 yards using the NRA
A-27 target which has 4-Targets, along with 1-sighter bullseye.

When the command to fire is given and the line goes "hot" each
shooter may fire any number of rounds at the sighter, and then
fires 10 rounds on each of the top 2 targets.

When all shooters are finished with this phase, the line is made
safe and we go down and score the first two targets.

This is repeated with the 2nd two targets, at which time the match
is finished.

Scores are recorded by the Range Officer.

Come out and enjoy a relaxed and
rewarding shooting experience with us.
